Actually the technology on which openMosix is based, Mosix is not new at all, some rumor that Mosix comes from Moshe Unix but what we do know is that the initial versions of Mosix started out as a BSD/OS 3.0.
The first Linux version of Mosix date from 1999, when the 7th incarnation of Mosix was released for Linux 2.2.1 . It was at the end of 2001 that openMosix, the open version of Mosix was born.
The key person behind the openMosix project is Moshe Bar. When the original Mosix project was no longer supported as a GPL project and had a 1000+ deployments world wide Moshe decided to continue the support of the project under a new name , openMosix, and under the full GPL2 license. This lead to the openMosix project as we know it now with an extremely active community of contributors and ports to new platforms and Linux kernel versions.
