Since you will be setting up a PPP connection to the Internet you will be needing PPP, In order to make the PPP setup easier I use wvdial, Since we will be using Infra red to set up the connection between the laptop and the mobile phone, Irda utils will also be needed. ppp-2.4.1-2 wvdial-1.41-15 irda-utils-0.9.14-2 are the rpm version that are currently installed on my laptop.
