Goals

Today's average network is running 100 Mbit/s; this usually is enough for most applications including some cluster enviroments. However some clustering applications need more. As an alternative for more expensive Gigabit network cards and switching I tried to setup openMosix in a networked FireWire infrastructure. I had 2 goals within this project.

  1. Proving that openMosix and FireWire work together.

  2. Finding out whether FireWire actually speeds up openMosix.

I ran some tests based on the openMosix Stresstest framework to see how my system behaves in a normal openMosix environment compared to the FireWire environment.
